The Lichtenau railway station was for many Mennonites between 19222 and 1929 the start of their flight to Canada. The train went to Riga at the Baltic Sea. From there they went on with the boat to Montreal.

The Mennonites would never have expected that the railroad that they built would once be there escape route.
